The City Solution
WHEN: Spring 2019
FOR WHO: Created in my Writing for Visual Media class.
WHY: The assignment was to produce an information plan for a website that would support neighborhood-based organizations in improving public health of those hit first and hardest by climate change.
WHAT: I conducted research, and found that the urban poor were of those most susceptible. I therefore invented a hypothetical organization “The City Solution” that would foster climate action in cities.
The goal is to persuade city dwellers and commuters to donate money to climate mitigation projects in U.S. cities and generate awareness in this audience on the negative health impacts climate change has on those of lower socioeconomic status living in cities.
Based on research, I identified measurable objectives and tactics to accomplish this goal.
The first objective was to "receive $100,000 in donations by 2022, via the website, to fund climate action mitigation grants for U.S. cities. The tactics I included to achieve this goal were: registering the website, promoting the website, and launching a commuter advertising campaign emphasizing what people can do personally for the cause.
The second objective was to "finance 3 city projects that increase green energy and slum housing by 2023." The tactics included: creating a grant application on the website, making Departments of Parks and Recreations and non-profits aware of the opportunity, and posting community spotlights highlighting how cities used the grants for urban climate action.
Additionally, I created an empathy map, journey map and style guide (included below). The full project PDF includes additional background research, a user persona, and goes into more detail. To view the entire project PDF, please click the button at the bottom of this page.
All of these components informed my final design of the website composition catered to the target user which I have also included below.
